It is called fencing to the skill of wield : manipulate a sword, protecting itself from the aggressions of the rival and attacking; or use something as a weapon to achieve a certain goal. The most common use of the concept refers to a sport that is part of the Olympic Games .

This combat sports discipline faces two people who use a White weapon (a foil, a sword or a saber). The goal is to touch the opponent with the weapon and prevent the rival from doing the same.

To avoid injuries , fencers or fenders wear a special suit and a protective mask. Each time one of the participants (also called shooters) manages to touch his opponent, he gets a point .

The rules Fencing varies according to the modality. While in fencing with a sword the opponent can be touched anywhere in the body, in fencing with saber the attack can be carried out on the torso, arms and head. Fencing with foil, meanwhile, only allows touches on the torso.

It should be noted that florets and the swords they must have a length minimum sheet of 90 centimeters and a maximum length of 110 centimeters. In the case of sabers , the minimum length is 88 centimeters and the maximum is 105 centimeters. Sabers and florets, on the other hand, should weigh less than 500 grams; the swords, less than 750 grams.

Beyond the sports fencing , there are also the artistic fencing (based on choreographies of combat ) and the scenic fencing (choreographies in the framework of shows, historical recreations, etc.).

With respect to the different poses and fencing movement movements, we can point out many points to consider. First of all we have the guard , the most important pose and the one that gives rise to all attacks. The instructions for the guard depend in part on the weapon used by the fencer, as this affects the position of the arm and the weapon itself. For example, with the foil, the tip of the weapon should be tilted slightly upwards, since the arm should not be protected because it is not a valid target, but with the sword the forearm is placed horizontally.
